Mordheim: The City of the Damned
Before Kill Teams and Necromundan Gangs ruled the skirmish tables, there was Mordheim – a cursed city, shattered by a twin-tailed comet, where warbands fought over wyrdstone and survival. Here, even the rats had names…and most of them were hungry!
Released in 1999 and long abandoned by official support, Mordheim remains one of the most brutal and open-ended games ever produced by Games Workshop. It’s not just about combat – it’s about story, treasures and the glorious decay of forgotten heroes.
Thankfully, saintly sites like Broheim or The New Mordheimer have preserved everything needed to keep its old damned-city charm alive, and it’s been a huge source of inspiration for our early projects. Thanks to them + Sigmar + Chaos Gods + Gork / Mork.
Another not-so-small reason why it’s one of my all-time favorites: it doesn’t require you to sell a kidney to play. All you need is a cool little warband – maybe some Dwarf Prospectors or Elven Rangers – and the customization is absolutely over the top!
